Can anyone tell me about Optus' coverage, rates and service? I'm currently with Vodafone and always want to switch. Which has better coverage if you live in the Sydney metro area?

  1. I too am with Vodafone and also thinking of changing because of the lack of coverage they offer. Some places I go to, The coverage is totally dead, so too bad for me if someone is trying to get in contact with me. I think I might check out Telstra's rates first.

  2. I live in rural QLD. First went with Vodaphone- little coverage, had to return phone because it was so limited I had to drive for half an hour to get coverage and I live 2 hours from Brisbane! I am pretty sure they have the least coverage. Not the best deal either.

Second phone was with Telstra- excellent coverage-I believe they have the widest. Poor service, this is no secret and very, very expensive- also no secret.

Currently with Optus- best deal ever, $99 a month for all home line calls to std, optus mobiles, 13- 18 numbers AND my internet- which is fastest connection available and huge usage to- I download alot and have never ran out. With Telstra I paid $250 a month and now I pay $99 a month.

My moblie is still with Telstra and I am on a $40 plan with a free hour 7-8pm which I can call anywhere in Australia to either home or mobiles for up to 20 min.

So my bill is now ALWAYS $140 a month which is a HUGE saving for me.

If you need coverage on a mobile like us then use Telstra and get a My free hour to make all your regular calls to family, friends, at a time you choose.

If you need a homeline and internet use Optus they have the best deals.

As for customer service all companies have their good and bad.

  3. Optus has brilliant deals- $49 a month= $300 which i love but the coverage isnt that good with any of them

if you want good coverage (but it's expensive) telstra is the best to go with. all the others lose reception where telstra phones dont

it depends whether you are looking at good prices (optus) or good coverage (telstra)

  4. I am with Vodafone too and I have been told by numerous people to go with 3.  From what I've seen, they have some good deals and they use Telstra's phone towers so you get the same coverage as a Telstra customer.  I do have to admit, that I don't know how their rates and service compare to Optus though.

  5. I have had the worst service imaginable with Optus - try ringing their customer service line (for existing customers) and you'll see a little of what I mean, no matter what time you ring you will be on hold for an hour or so. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
