Or Ram-Harel outplays Dennis Novak in the opening round of Boys’ Singles – US Open 2011
Unseeded in the tournament, Or Ram-Harel of Israel stood victorious against the Austrian competitor, Dennis Novak, in the opening round of Boys’ Singles event at the US Open championships on Monday afternoon.
The contest took place on the Court 15 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York City, United States, with some exciting tennis action being displayed from the two teenagers.
Ram-Harel battled for two hours and fifty five minutes before he settled the final scores at 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-3, to make a place in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. The competition was evenly poised throughout, with
both boys toiling extremely hard to take the better of one another but it was the Israeli who kept his nerves under the intense pressure situations to come out as the winner in the end.
The unseeded Israeli delivered 62 per cent of his serve on target and pocketed 39 out of 69 first serve points in the game, while Novak excelled over him by securing 44 out of 60 points, yet finishing on the side in the end. Ram-Harel
crafted a total of 18 break opportunities in the matchup but six conversions proved sufficient for him to wrap up victory. His opponent also cashed in six out of his 14 break points in the game but it was only the matter of time that the Austrian missed a
couple of crucial points in the game to let Ram-Harel away with victory.
Intense tennis was seen right from the beginning of the match, with both contestants exchanging a number of early serve breaks. Ram-Harel and Novak traded three break points each before the opening set entered into a tie breaker
round. The decider also went to the wire before Ram-Harel clinched it at 7-6(6), to get one up in the contest.
Action continued in the following set as but Novak took the better of his opponent this time round, nailing two crucial serve breaks to bag the second set at 6-3. The Austrian then went on to break his opponent in the first game
of the final set but two cracking break point conversions from Ram-Harel left him answerless at 3-6.
Ram-Harel made it into the second round of the US Open, where he will play against Joao Pedro Sorgi of Brazil for a spot in the third round.
