Oracle Racing ready to take on any challenge at 2011 America’s Cup World Series in San Diego
America’s Oracle Racing has completed a month-long training session in San Francisco and is ready to take on any challenge at the 2011 America’s Cup World Series in San Diego, which is going to be held from November 12-20. The San Diego event is the third
leg of AC World Series season and will feature all top guns of AC World circuit in a week’s time, in California.
The crew line-up of Oracle Racing Spithill will remain unchanged, as the team will race with crew that contributed in Cascais and Plymouth rounds of the AC World Series. On the other hand, Oracle Racing Coutts will be skippered by Darren Bundock, who took
over skipper duties from Russell Coutts for this event. Another addition in their crew members will be Tom Slingsby, who is racing for the first time.
The regatta has returned to ORACLE Racing’s second home, San Diego, which will be a huge advantage for American teams to capitalise and hit the top spot because in the overall leaderboard, the Spithill squad is currently at second position while Coutts team
is on third position.
Oracle Racing, winner of the 33rd America’s Cup, stayed in San Diego for 16 months, to get the giant trimaran, USA 17, ready for the 2010 AC World Series in February. Skipper Oracle Racing, James Spithill believes that San Diego is an ideal and lucky place
for them to sail.
Speaking to the media, Spithill said, “That was a memorable experience. San Diego was ideal for us to put in the hard yards preparing for the Cup. The hospitality and support we received locally was great for our team spirit. We’re really looking forward
to a return. San Diego is an awesome arena for this type of racing. People will be able to watch the action from their homes, offices, hotels and all along the harbor front. It’s going to be fantastic.”
