  1. Cold sores are a form of herpes. You just might be one of those people that's prone to painful cold sores. You shouldn't worry as long as they aren't on your genitals. If you are still worried, go and get tested again for everything. But sounds to me like you just get bad cold sores. I knew someone like that

  2. you are still contagious, even if its consider a cold sore, its really type 1 Herpes, HSV1.   You can give it to someone  if you have oral s*x, or kiss, etc.   If it continues you might need meds to stop your outbreaks.

  3. You don't say whether the test you took was a swab test or a blood test.

If it was a blood test, then a negative test result probably just means that it was your first outbreak.   Your body didn't have enough antibodies to register on the test.  This is very very common with HSV blood tests if you aren't aware of ever having had a previous outbreak.   You should get another blood test for HSV in the next month or so.  If it comes back positive, then you'll know that you went to the doctor during your very first outbreak.

If it was a swab test, then I would have a swab test redone on your current sores.   A positive swab test is very very definite - and rarely wrong.   But a negative swab test may mean that the sore wasn't swabbed as well as it should have been, or that the outbreak was subsiding when the swab was taken.

If this second round of tests doesn't clear things up, then I would go to a dermatologist and/or ear-nose-throat specialist and see what they have to say.

    Good luck.
