Hi guys,

I was wondering Oral thermometer was more accurate or Ear thermometer was more accurate.

I was sure that I had a fever but my oral thermometer show that I had 36.3C while my ear thermometer show 37C. But my doctor confirmed that I had a fever when he stick a thermometer paper on my forehead =.=

So which one should i trust?

  1. It's a matter of choice, and there is a difference of one full degree between anal, oral, and ear thermometers, anal insertion giving the highest reading. I am not sure of the variant with the ones that are applied directly to the skin, but I am sure it would be different.

  2. Oral is most accurate but your doctor may have allowed that the forehead will be a slightly cooler reading..

I'd say trust your doc. Also, if it's that small a difference you shouldn't worry about running a fever unless you are a vulnerable person (elderly / baby / suffering another serious illness).

The most accurate is rectal thermometers if you are interested - not comfy I'd imagine - but accurate!

    Good luck & happy health
