Orang Outan to claim the Betfair Conditional Jockeys’ Training Series Handicap Hurdle (Racing Excellence Initiative) at Towcester
Towcester will become home for the Class 5 Betfair Conditional Jockeys’ Training Series Handicap Hurdle (Racing Excellence Initiative) over two miles on Tuesday, 24th April. The line-up assembled for the race has eight runners who will compete for the £2,274 purse.
Among the candidates the only one to have won at Towcester that too not during the current season is Orang Outan, Baby Turk’s ten-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Ellapampa.
He was active only thrice during 2011 and the only victory that he posted out of the three starts was at Towcester on 3rd February. He won the Ladbrokespoker.Com Handicap Hurdle over two miles by leading the 11/4 favourite runner up, Marlborough Sound, by 1 ¼ lengths.
Completing the track distance third behind the winner was Andy Gin.
His seasonal debut was in the Carlsberg UK Handicap Hurdle on 1st March at Taunton over two miles and three and half furlongs. The race was won by Buckie Boy and striding on to the runner up’s slot was Guards Chapel.
Concluding the race after the leading pair was Bathwick Brave. The 9/4 favourite of the race, Soleil D’Avril, ended sixth on the track of eleven.
The ten-year-old will race through the second opportunity of the season and will race at Towcester after nearly more than a year. Staying unsuccessful in the three races that followed the win, it is high time that Orang Outan claims a start.
Another entry who has the potential of bagging the race today is Speedy Directa, Areion’s nine-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Sourour. He won at Towcester on 17th May, 2011 in the “Mazda CX-7” Handicap Hurdle over two miles and three and a half furlong.
Speedy Directa took charge of the final three lengths and thus had Deep Pockets settled as the runner up. The 9/4 favourite of the race, Not So Sure d**k, ended fifth on the track of eight.
During the current season, he was part of the line-up for the Free Bets At GG.Com Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle on 15th March over two miles and three and a half furlong. The race was won by Zouti while finishing the closest behind was Lonesome Boatman.
The 6/4 favourite of the race, Speedy Directa, was declared unraced.
Speedy Directa really has not got the chance yet to display the potential at Towcester as he did the previous season.
