Question:

Orange finned monos?

I reently bought some orangefinned monos. They were in a freshwater tank at my LFS, so i added them to my tank. Everything I've read however states that the fish would be happier in a brackish environment, and when i last went to vegas i saw some large ones in a completely saltwater tank . I'd be willingto maintaina brackish tank but am not sure whats the best way to go about it. The only other fish I have in teh tank are 4 Sailfin Mollies which I have also read would prefer the brackish water. Any advice?

  1. You have to make sure that you do it gradually.  To omuch salt will be a shock to their sytems.  I'm not sure what the specific gravity you'll need to maintain for a brackish tank but a little fluctuation might be a good.  Generally fish that live in brackkish water  estuaries and what not are probably used to minor fluctuations is salinity since tehy live where fresh water rivers meet the ocean.

  2. we kept monos and scats many years ago in brackish tanks

but I can't remember how we did it because we had fresh and salt water tanks also, ask at your pet shop or someone who's good with salt water, the monos really do so much better in brackish water

    good luck
