Orb set to star in Kentucky Derby
Orb will be looking to stretch his winning streak in the Kentucky Derby (Grade 1) at Churchill Downs in the United States of America on Saturday, May 4, 2013. He has had a terrific start to the season and will be a tough nut to crack.
“I think there's going to be horses that show a little more speed than maybe it shows on paper,” said Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey. “I'm just going to tell Joel to play the break and see what happens and try to hold some kind of position so when the
time comes we got a chance to make that run.”
Looking at the performances of Orb until now, the bookies have given him extremely good odds for winning the race. He will definitely attract a lot of bets from the punters, as they have got a great chance of winning some easy money from the race.
The three-year-old colt has participated in a total of three events until now and no one has been able to beat him in any of them thus far. This means that he has got a 100 percent winning record and it will be tough for his rivals to combat him.
He started off his career at the start of this year and got the attention of everyone with a splendid run. He finished on top of the table quite comfortably, which earned him a lot of respect amongst rivals.
Afterwards, the young challenger continued to deliver some strong results and won a couple of more events for his team. Despite that, things are not considered to be easy for him in the upcoming competition.
He will have to battle against some quality performers, who have been trained by veteran Todd Pletcher. Therefore, things will be quite interesting at Churchill Downs.
According to Pletcher, it is not going to be easy for him to succeed despite the fact that he has listed quite a few challengers for the event. He stated, “Holding four aces in this game is a little different than Texas hold 'em. We've been there with five,
as have Zito and Lukas. But having five doesn't mean you'll win. I have a tremendous appreciation for how difficult it is to win the Derby.”
