Orbs, Spirits, Ghosts?

We moved into a new place (for us) 5 weeks ago. It was built in 1892 and we don't have any history on it. We seem to have Orbs in many of our pictures and we have experienced smells (male sweat in bathroom) noises (slamming doors) and activity (opening cabinets when they are double latched.) we have no fear and everyone who has come into our home comments that they feel calm and peaceful when they are here.. to the point where they do not want to leave! Is this paranormal? is it a vivid imagination? My husband and I along with our 10 yr old are very receptive to anything. My 15 month old grandson seems to talk to people or things we cannot see. How do I find out if there really is something going on?

There are many ways to find out weather it is your imagination. I recommend to set up a recorder and try to record the noise also you might try setting up cameras that will pick up movement. The other thing you can do is go to a Library and as them to help you locate persons dealing in paranormal.

First, moving into a new home does make for unfamiliar smells, noises, squeaks, that may later become background as you get used to them.  It's also possible that it could be paranormal in nature.  "Repetition" or "imprint" activity is like watching an old movie, except you really can't turn it off.  "Intelligent" activity can be interacted with.  With an older home that may have been empty for a while, dust may be causing the orbs.  Try a camera with a flash sitting up higher away from the central axis of the lens and see if you still get orbs, or check the photos and see if any of the orbs are partly behind another object.  For dust to make an orb, it generally must be 4" or closer to the lens.  An orb behind a plant 12' away may be genuine.  For other noises, set a recorder and let it run for a few hours, turn it up, and review what you have.  If you get anything really "off the wall" save the tapes/digital for an investigator to review.  Most genuine activity is strange or unsettling in a new residence, but remember that almost all genuine activity is harmless.  If you have guests, thay may be just trying to get your attention.  Many people find it strange, but try interacting.  Talk to the guests as you would any other normal guest, and see in things calm down.  Something like. "I hear you, but not now please, I'm trying to rest".  Or, "OK, if you've something to say, I'm listening, I know you're there".  My wife and I have had a guest for about 2 years, mostly a prankster, footsteps, pulling covers off the bed, turning lights on in the middle of the night, hiding things, etc.  Almost a household pet, wouldn't be without him.  Its common for small children and pets to be more sensitive and aware of guests.  Most of us lose this ability to a certain degree with age.  If you feel comfortable, this is the feeling trying to be conveyed by your guest.  Many guests stay behind to fulfill tasks or to be comforting to others.  Treat them with the same respect you would any other person.  They feel it is their mission to guide and protect.  If at any time you are others start feeling truly frightened, find a local professional group to look into your activity, and try to research the history of your home with local historians, public library, newspaper, etc.

well ...Orbs are not signs of a haunting, they are mostly just energy, not a entity or spirit/ghost. I've never seen an orb manifest into any mist or apparition. In The 90's the revolution of digital images took place and thus bringing upon interest to paranormal investigation and research. The company Sony brought about night vision (ability to see and record pictures in darkness) which using them they started to notice new anomalous phenomenon Orbs. Thousands upon thousands these are loaded on the internet. Just about everyone with a digital camera would capture orbs. Analyzed by experts they started noticing that photos of orbs were occurring in places that were not haunted indoors and outdoors. Scientists would do experiments had thrown and blown dust or powder in front of cameras caught in the flash they gave convincing Orbs that looked exactly like those seen in many of the pictures that people search for photos all the time and look at on orb/ghost sites. Outdoors in misty conditions photos produce tens of thousands of orbs and rain produced many in photos as well. Moving Orbs seen on the night vision video are simply the result of the camcorder capturing a moving image of the dust or water droplets as they get carried past by the slight currents of moving air that are Moving Orbs are simply the result of moving currents of air and in one case an insect, dust , pollen etc. flying through the air .It goes to show that your common anomalous phenomena "Orbs" happens to be common things such as dust, bugs , rain , moisture etc. reflecting back the light of the flash and also to close to the lens.

Well Old Homes have sometimes been able to have strong scents after many years such as something spoiling over time or something in the walls .... This has happened on a few of our cases with homes where people have never smoked but the previous home owners did where it was residual smoke on the ceiling/in the walls.... Noises with the doors i have a few questions :) we're the windows open or is the floor not leveled to where the door is awkward.... And are the cabinets as old the home where the latches are old too? It is common for out of the ordinary things to be disproved by typical everyday happenings :) use a digital recorder when your 15 month year old grandson is talking to people you cannot see Also you can do this on your own:

It takes time for them to reply, their voice isn’t as quick as ours in replying.

you can also bring a 3 mega pixel camera or lower usually the higher the mega pixel drowns out spirit formation and may cause Matrixes *which is what many people Misinterpret certain things in photos to be evidence of paranormal*

ask your grandson who he is talking to.  listen to your dreams.  usually spirits can contact you in your sleep.  pay attention to every detail.   it is paranormal

The orbs most likely are fairies.   Especially if you are from somewhere like Ireland.

Speaking of orbs outside from dust..(Ryan)...It seems to me that if it's dust..there would be LOTS of "orbs" (dust particles). When I saw them there were only about 5 or 6 or so (didn't count them) If I can find the picture again, I will. It was in our back yard and the kids were jumping on the trampoline...but the "orbs" were further away. ..and up high. (just puzzled about this)

most of the time if your visitors feel at home in your house, its ok spiritually. as it is a very old home, there will be smells and such that you are not used to smelling. A suggestion, place a digital recorder out in the open all night long. Then listen to it. I f you have a camcorder with a long record, leave it on in an area where your experiencing the most activity before you retire for the night. see what you come up with. If you record anything on either media, then contact a local reputable group.
