  1. A good way to get scholarship money is to play in local music competitions. If you study with a private teacher, your teacher might be a member of a Music Teachers' Association. These associations organize competitions for music students, and are well funded. Usually, first place and second place receive money prizes (plus bragging rights). Colleges will look appreciatively at your awards and accomplishments and consider you for partial or full scholarships to their school.

A good scholarship is one run by the "From the Top" radio program - for $10,000!

You can visit their website at http://www.fromthetop.org

Go to the tab for "Scholarships" and then to "Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship". There's a big application process, including recommendations from your school counselor, an unedited videotape, CD, or DVD of your playing, and a full background survey of you and your family.
