Oregon State looks forward to maintaining its winning momentum in Annual Amer Ari Invitational - Golf News
The Oregon State men's golf team will open its new season with the 22nd Annual Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings Course, in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
All the team members are expecting to maintain their winning momentum in the tournament, as they won the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif, to end their Fall-2011 season.
The last year saw the Oregon State finish 13th in the Amer Ari Invitational, which was not up to the expectations for the team.
However, the morale of the team is now much higher, which is why it is aiming to register a win this year.
The only problem it is facing right now is the lack of practice and preparation while entering the tournament. The whole team spent most of the time indoors because snow and rain hit the area severely.
However, the Head Coach for the Oregon State men's golf team, Jon Reehoorn, said that he will not make it an excuse in any case.
“The weather in Corvallis has been very difficult the last few months, especially the last couple of weeks just to prepare for Hawaii,” Reehoorn said.
“But I told the guys we have no excuses. There is something they can do every day whether that is being in the weight room or go across town to Golf 365 to take advantage of the indoor facility or take advantage of the Par 3 out at Trysting Tree,” he stated.
"There is something we can do every day to get better so the weather is not an excuse,” he added.
There will be a total of 20 teams from different states featuring in the three-day, 54-hole tournament which is considered as one of the toughest at college level.
Among the 20 teams that are participating, eight are listed among the top 25 teams of the nation and four of them are even in the top five of the Golfstat.com rankings. Oregon State men's golf team is in the top five.
According to Reehoorn, it was an honour for them to be listed as a top team in the Golfstat rankings and they will prove it by winning the season-opener in Hawaii.
