Orel Hershiser looking to buy Los Angeles Dodgers – MLB News
The National League’s Western franchise, Los Angeles Dodgers is on sale and several groups have come forward to take on the charge. Among them is a group which under the leadership of Steve Garvey and Orel Hershiser has shown interest to buy the club, but
without revealing their financial assistor.
With scarce information about the financial conditions, the rumours started to revolve around the baseball circuit that Hershiser would not have taken the opportunity seriously. On Thursday, however Hershiser folded up cynicism about his eagerness to buy
the Dodgers through auction.
The Dodgers have been in serious financial crisis for the past few months as Major League Baseball stepping to sort things out. Dodgers’ owner Frank McCourt has agreed to sell the team in the hopes of rescuing the coveted franchise.
Speculations started as Hershiser’s financial support has not come forward but he insists that they have enough financial support to put in a successful potential bid for the Dodgers. Most financial analysts are putting a price tag of between $800 million
to $1.2 billion for the franchise.
The period to complete the process is yet not confirmed, but according to McCourt it may take three to four months. Hershiser also expressed his lack of knowledge of when the auction would be and how long it would take.
He added that it would be better to have this opportunity as soon as possible, because it would be the best thing for the Dodgers’ spectators, new owner and the Major League Baseball.
Replying to a question about his personal affiliation for the club, Hershiser stated that he is unable to assess it, as he was away from the club since joining a television news channel. However, Hershiser said, when he came to know of the possibility to
be a part of the club, he could not hold back.
Former Dodgers owner Peter O’Malley, whose family owned the club for 47 years, along with former general manager Fred Claire has also shown interest in bidding. It will be interesting to see who actually ends up buying the Dodgers and what impact that will
have on Major League Baseball for years to come.
