Organic eggs as opposed to non organic eggs

Can you really tell the difference between an organic egg and a non organic egg.

Provided the hen is fed properly there will be no difference. Hens reared for egg production can be intensively fed which can increase the colour of the yoke.

How do you as consumer know that is an organic egg or not. Is it simply because it is written on the box.

You look for the USDA organic seal and that means the hens were raised according to the USDA/NOP which means no drugs, only cert organic feed fed (no GMO's, antibiotics, etc..) and the hens are not caged (free ranged) and allowed outside.

But organic hens are not pastured which IMO is by far the best way to raise hens for eggs (and meat birds too). pastured hens are outside all day every day on green pasture as opposed to free range hens who are not caged but not necessarily outside much, if at all. And rarely are they on green pasture if out of doors. generally these free range hens are on dirt and that means they do not eat greens daily.

pasture eggs have a bright orange yolk that stands up high, much higher than any factory farmed egg be it cage free, organic, etc..

sometime get a box of pastured eggs, a box of organic free range eggs and a box of battery farmed eggs and crack them open and compare color, etc between them all. It will be obvious which egg came from pastured hens.

Organic eggs come from hens fed  organic feed,without any artificial additives such as antibiotics etc.It is not the colour of the eggs that make organic eggs superior,its the taste! There is a big difference also knowing the hens have been cared for and fed good,chemical free feed.
