I have decided to move toward a "greener" way of living. I am interested in learning about organic products. Not food, but shampoo, lotion, etc. Where can I purchase these types of products?

  1. if you have a Safeway grocery in your area it now sells 7th generation and similar products in the organic section of thier stores.

the paper isles also contain recycled paper towels and toilet paper and phsphate free, eco friendly dish washer detergent.

  2. Most health food stores have a beauty/body product section

I think people are too focused on Organics.  You should really try and buy things that are produced locally.  The petrol that is wasted on and the subsequent emissions that result because of shipping and trucking are huge and destructive!

Also, with local food you can find out how the farmers run the farm pretty easily.  Call and ask or ask them at your farmers market.  Just because they don't have the money to become certified organic it doesn't mean they aren't using harmful pesticides. Often small farmers don't have the resources to go through the certification process yet they are just as green if not greener than the big corporate farms that supply the big stores that come from half way around the country or world.

  3. http://www.shopnatural.com/

    http://www.organicconsumers.org/

here are a couple of websites to get you started

  4. If you don't already, do this as a start:

    - replace EVERY light bulb in your house with florescent bulbs

    - drink only organic milk

    - buy 365 organic peanut butter from Whole Foods

  5. To become greener: buy local products to avoid impacts of shipping (and support your local businesses), buy products that use less packaging (a 3-pack instead of 3 individually wrapped items), buy environmentally friendly products - I personally like seventh generation (cleaners, paper towels, tp, etc.) which is available at Shaws and Amazon.com <-- also available in bulk, purchase clothing, sheets, etc. that are made from organic cotton.  Many stores carry environmentally friendly products including shaws, amazon.com, whole foods, wild harvest, trader joes, and many other internet sites.
