Organisers of Bahrain Grand Prix still hopeful of rescheduling the race – Formula 1 news
The organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix have said that they are still hopeful that the postponed race can be rescheduled despite the unrest in the country.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally scheduled to be the opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season and was scheduled to be held in March. Unfortunately, due to the unrest in the country, it was announced that the organisers were being forced to postpone
the race for the safety of the people involved in the event.
The Crown Prince of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa personally advised the organisers of the venue and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to postpone the race due to the volatile situation of the country. Later on, it was revealed that the
FIA is keen to reschedule the race near the grand finale of this season if the government of the country allows them to.
Recently, Al Khalifa stated that he also believes that the race can be rescheduled and advised that the FIA should come up with a reliable decision regarding the rescheduling of the race until the deadline of 1 May, 2011.
“We are in constant contact with concerned authorities to reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix 2011. Now that security has prevailed and normal life has returned to Bahrain, thanks to the wise leadership, we are stepping up contacts to host the race anew,”
said Salman.
However, Al Khalifa did not point out any potential dates for the event to be held but the organisers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have already offered Bahrain its slot of 11 – 13 November, 2011 and are willing to host the Yas Marina circuit race a month
later in December.
The FIA now has a green signal from Bahrain’s Crown Prince as well which would definitely lean the decision regarding the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix to a more positive side.
