Organisers of Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix hoping to host race soon – Formula 1 news
Organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix want to host a Formula 1 race in the near future.
The 2011 Formula 1 season opener was scheduled to be held at Bahrain, but the race was postponed due to the political unrest in the country. The sport’s governing body International Automobile Federation did not rule out a possibility of a race in the Gulf
state this year, but conditions are still not ideal in the country to host an international event.
The chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit, Zayed Rashid Alzayani said, “We gratefully acknowledge the understanding of Formula One Management and the FIA in what have been difficult times. We also thank the continued support of the international
motorsport community and Formula 1 fans around the world.”
He further added, “Bahrain's grand prix is a time of celebration and hosting the race is a source of great pride for Bahrain and Bahrainis. It is a showcase to the world and we look forward to welcoming the teams and drivers and everyone involved in Formula
1 back to Bahrain in the very near future.”
Alzayani admitted that there had been tough times for the country in the past few months, but things have improved a lot with the passage of time. He said that the priority of the organisers was to have a trouble-free event and the situation of the country
was crucial for that.
Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone was pleased with the commitment of the authorities in Bahrain. He wanted to give more time to the country in order to sort out the ongoing issues, but was unsure of when Formula 1 racing would return to Bahrain.
Ecclestone further said that the race in Bahrain has always been of great importance to the Formula 1 fraternity and the fans worldwide. He expected the organisers to come up with something special in a very short time.
Australia was given the responsibility of hosting the inaugural race of the ongoing season, following the postponement of the Bahrain GP. The race was dominated by Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel. The reigning champion went onto win the second race of the
season as well in Malaysia, but was unable to score a hat-trick, finishing second at the Chinese Grand Prix.
