Organisers of Formula 1 might reschedule Indian Grand Prix as grand finale of the 2011 season
According to some recent reports, it has been revealed that the organisers of Formula 1 are considering the option of rescheduling the Indian Grand Prix as the season finale of the 2011 season in order to accommodate the Bahrain Grand Prix in the calendar.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was initially expected to be the season opening race of the 2011 season but the political situation in the country has not been stable since the past couple of months and the people of the country have been protesting violently.
International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Jean Todt recently stated that he is happy to give Bahrain some more time after the FIA moved the deadline of the decision regarding this matter even further.
“We completely sympathise with the problems that are happening, and we all understand that it would not have been possible to keep the grand prix as the first race of the championship,” he said.
However, the CEO of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone announced that the Bahrain Grand Prix can be rescheduled if the organisers of the venue are comfortable with it. As a result, the organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix, FIA and Bernie Ecclestone have
been discussing this matter and according to some recent reports, they have asked the Indian Grand Prix organisers whether a reschedule is possible or not.
There were rumours before that the Brazilian Grand Prix might be rescheduled but if the Indian Grand Prix is rescheduled, then there would be no need of moving the Brazilian race to another date.
“I think if you are in a difficult situation, you need support. That is our responsibility. We need to give some support and it will penalise nobody to have a final answer by June 3,” Todt added.
Nevertheless, it is a very difficult decision as it going to affect the sport’s image drastically if the FIA does not come up with a reliable and safe decision regarding this matter.
