Organisers of Indian Grand Prix say change of date has not affected construction work – F1 news
The Indian Grand Prix was initially expected to take place on October 30, 2011 but since the International Automobile Federation (FIA) decided to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 calendar, the Indian Grand Prix has now been moved to a further date in December.
However, the organisers claim that this change is not going to affect the pace of construction of the new Indian circuit which is expected to hold the inaugural Indian Grand Prix this year.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was initially expected to hold the opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season but due to the political unrest in the country, the security situation was quite volatile as a result of which, the Bahrain GP had to be postponed by the FIA.
The country was in a state of emergency for a couple of months during which, the condition of the country stabilised a bit. However, since the emergency period ended on June 1, 2011, the country’s situation has become even worse due to some recent violent protests against the government of the country.
The FIA and the organisers of the venue on the other hand believe that holding a Formula 1 Grand Prix is still possible this year as a result of which, they decided to reinstate the race for a further date this season which has affected the designated date of the Indian Grand Prix.
Either way, the organisers of the Indian Grand Prix are confident that this decision has nothing to do with the racetrack.
The president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India Vicky Chandhok stated that the circuit would be ready ahead of its schedule as planned and he is confident that the race will take place without any sort of problems.
Nevertheless, this has created a lot of confusion for the teams and the officials as well. Let’s see how things turn out as the season goes on.
