Organisers of Indian Grand Prix want date confirmation from FIA – Formula 1 news
Latest reports have revealed that the organisers of the 2011 Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix are now getting impatient as they have been waiting for an official confirmation about the event’s rescheduled date.
Since the Bahrain Grand Prix is going to replace the Indian Grand Prix’s original scheduled date of October 30, the officials of the Indian GP are yet to find out their exact date which is likely to be somewhere around the second week of December.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced that the Indian Grand Prix is going to be the season finale of the 2011 Formula 1 season and is going to take place in mid-December. However, they did not reveal a date as they are still considering
some options.
A spokesperson of the Indian Grand Prix organisers said that they are getting very impatient as they are hoping for an official decision as soon as possible from the FIA.
“Ideally, we would like to have the uncertainty end as soon as possible. Considering the enormity of logistics like ticket sales, travel and accommodation bookings etcetera, we would like to get a clear idea about the date before long,” he said.
The Bahrain Grand Prix, which was rescheduled recently, is still quite uncertain as the conditions in the country are not getting better and the teams are pretty much against it as well. Ross Brawn, Mercedes GP team principal, stated that holding the Bahrain
GP is unacceptable this year.
Nevertheless, even Bernie Ecclestone has now taken a U-turn from his initial stance as he now believes that the Bahrain Grand Prix should be moved to the end of the season.
“Better that we move Bahrain to the end of the season and, if things are safe and well, then that is fine, we can go. If they are not, then we don't go and there are no problems,” said Ecclestone.
The teams are expected to hold a meeting regarding the Bahrain Grand Prix decision in Canada after which the teams will give their final verdict about the race. So far, it seems that the chances of holding a race in Bahrain this year are very low.
