Organisers of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix happy with rescheduling – Formula 1 news
Organisers of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix have said that they will be happy if the inaugural Indian Grand Prix is shifted to mid December as the grand finale of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
This will be done in order to accommodate for the Bahrain Grand Prix which would replace the Indian Grand Prix’s original position of October 30, 2011.
It is believed that the final decision regarding this would be made by the World Motor Sport Council this Friday, June 3, 2011.
Formula 1 Management’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone stated that if the Bahrain Grand Prix is to take place this year, then it would surely take the Indian Grand Prix’s spot. The organisers of the Indian race are fine with the changes.
“Whether the race is held on October 30 or on some other date, it's alright with us,” Jaypee Sports International spokesperson Sameer Kumar told the media before stating that JPSI is aware of the current situation.
However, Mercedes GP’s principal Ross Brawn has recently stated that extending the Formula 1 calendar like this would make it extremely hectic for all of the teams and it is totally unacceptable.
As a result, it was believed that the teams might boycott if this decision takes place but Martin Whitmarsh, the principal of McLaren stated that the teams would have no choice and they would have to take part in the race in the end.
Nevertheless, Kumar also believes that the teams would have to take part in the grand finale regardless of what the organisers of Formula 1 decide.
“I feel this would be offset by the fact that this is the first race in India and that people would still come in huge numbers to have this unique experience. In fact, the Indian GP would be an important addition to the whole India experience for foreign
tourists as well,” he said.
Either way, keeping the Indian Grand Prix as the grand finale of the season might become a bit tricky for the organisers of the sport as well as it is going to be the inaugural race of the venue.
