What are the principles of diffusion and osmosis and how organisms living in freshwater and seawater are affected by their external environments and how they control water content of their tissues?

  2. Diffusion is the movement of the particles of a substance from an area of higher concentration to one of lower concentration.

    Osmosis is the movement of WATER particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

    Organisms living in freshwater have cell regulation that prevents too much water from entering the cell vacuole and diluting the cell sap (which might also cause the cell to explode).

    Organisms living in salty water need to keep the water in their cell sap from moving out of the cell and into the salty water (the concentration of water in the cell sap [which is more dilute than the salt water] is higher than the concentration of water in the sea)
