I would like to correspond with (hopefully a "needy" child) by postcard or email or letter or all & occasionally send a small package of fun stuff to brighten their day. Anyone know of any such organization or group?

  1. I sponsor a child through SOS Children's Villages. It costs $30/month and I can write letters, etc. Others like this are Plan and World Vision.

They all cost about $30/month to sponsor a child, and you can contact your child. Keep in mind that I don't think any of the organizations (at least, through my research) will let you send packages to the child. The reason is that these kids get SO little, if one child gets even a pencil then they ALL want a pencil. This can cause jealousy, fighting and low moral amongst the other kids.

With SOS, they will let me give a bit more money for birthdays, etc. The money goes into an account for the child and when he/she reaches an age where I can no longer sponsor them, the money is given to them for college, to start a business, etc.

  2. sweet....my children are special needs and encouraging words would be great for them to hear.  They hear so much negative in school and my son (12yrs) has such a low self esteem.

My daughter goes to a special school for learning disabled...you can email and ask if you can write the kids there...that may be something they would welcome ...here is the website...http://churchillacademymontgomery.com/

  3. www.risingfountains.org

  4. plan international.

sponsor a child for approx £12 per month, which benefits not only the child but the whole community as well, and you can write and communicate as much as you want.

    Fantastic.  Enjoy.
