Organizations for helping needy children in poor countries?

I am still in highschool but am looking for something special to do before I go to university. I want to go to a country (such as africa or china) to help needy children in orphanages. Ive heard many horror stories of people doing it without an organization. Does anyone know of an organization that does this sort of work?
