A man named Wilhelm Reich did extensive research on how bio-electical energy was effected by things like sexual energy, bladder functions, heartbeat and emotions. He theorized that there was some bioenegery floated around in the atmosphere and called it orgone energy.

He created the orgone accumulator to measure this orgone energy, and gather information about a persons body. It could manipulate the orgone energy in the body to generate conditions of good health.

This is a great example of psuedoscience. Wilhelm Reich was a classic con-man inventor. He also invented a device called the cloudbuster which could disperse cloudes and therefore control the weather.

I sent this to myth busters but they didn't respond.  I would think it would be right up their alley.  It is interesting stuff nonetheless and you can buy orgone products on the web including orgone blankets.  One book said that people sitting motionless in an orgone chamber would have orgasms.

The "inventor" was put in prison.  He lived in Vermont, I think and his daughter continued his work for a while.  A real character in the history of hoaxes and con games.  Here's a fairly modern take on it, tongue in cheek

The orgone accumulators are made by alternating layers of wool and metal (something like that).  Supossedly a small one was made and he stuck a thermometer in it and it always read 4 degrees higher than the surrounding temperature.  It was further suggeated that this was shown or sent to Albert Einstein who had no comment....wonder y?...lol
