Please excuse my ignorance. I can't think of which culture it is that they sit on the floor and the table is practically on the floor too. Who does this, and where can I find more info about it? Google is turning up a no-go for me.

  1. In the USA, sitting on the floor is most likely to be found in Japanese restaurants where you sit in a Tatami room.

  2. It's Japanese culture

  3. Korean and Japanese.

  4. Korean, Japanese, and I think sometimes Indian.

  6. I agree with the poster who said lots of cultures sit on the floor and eat off a low table. I've experienced it twice. Once at a sushi place in Southern California and once at a Korean BBQ in Shanghai, China. Food was delicious both times, but being a 6'1, not very flexible guy, they rank among the worst dining experiences of my life. In both places they offered tables and chairs or a tatami room, so it was more a novelty, although in the case of the Korean BBQ it was because we had a large group that could only fit in the tatami room.

  7. I'm really not sure, but i think???? it may be the Japanese

But I beg to add most every Asian culture and China. Mongolia India, Africa the Himalayans and more I can't think of..

Eating on the floor has little to do with their culture but the space in their homes or the annual budget for true furniture

  11. Japanese
