"Good Old Collingwood Forever" is the official anthem of the Collingwood Football Club. It is sung to the tune of "Goodbye, Dolly Gray".

Goodbye, Dolly Gray was a Boer War anthem written by Will D. Cobb (lyrics) and Paul Barnes (music) during the earlier Spanish-American War. It was featured in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid The tune (with different lyrics) is also used in the modern day as Good Old Collingwood Forever, the club song of the Australian Football League's Collingwood Football Club (ironically in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, they joke about moving to Australia at the end).

The famed song is generally sung, in accordance to common AFL tradition, after a victory. It is also played before every match.

It is said to be the first club song in VFL/AFL history. The words were written and introduced in 1906 by Tom Nelson who was a young Collingwood player at the time.

If my memory serves me correctly the words of Good Old Collingwood are set to the tune of an old song called "Goodbye Dolly Gray" which was apparently a popular Boer War song.

This is an extract from an ABC schedule for Mon 11 Oct 1999

"Today is the 100th anniversary of the start of the Boer War. On 11 October 1899, the combined armies of the Transvaal and Orange Free State invaded the two British colonies of Natal and the Cape on three fronts. Many thought the war would be over by Christmas. In fact, it dragged on bitterly for two and a half years. Most wars have songs indelibly associated with them, and Goodbye, Dolly Gray was the 'theme' song of the Boer War. It was written by a couple of Americans at the outbreak of the Spanish American War in 1898 but that war was over so quickly that the song was 'recycled' for use in South Africa."
