Origin of surname Dowhaniuk?

anyone know where this surname (Dowhaniuk) originates from?

  1. A quick search at ancestry.com seems to show that the origin is Austrian, but there were times when folks identified themselves as from Austria (Austrian Hungarian Empire) and in fact were Polish.

    "The suffix -uk or -iuk is a diminutive generally used to form patronymics, and it tends to appear more often in eastern Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. So usually you can take off -uk or -iuk and render the name "son of _," and usually the first part of the surname is clearly a first name or occupation, e. g., Martyniuk = son of Martyn, Tkaczuk = son of the weaver."

    I could not find the complete meaning for the surname.  In the end it would be more important to know your personal family origin and not necessarily the origin of the surname itself. One surname could have many origins.
