  1. Hello,

My last name is Pulphus, I live in Cleveland, Ohio.  My family (including relatives) is rather large and reaches many different states.  I do realize that there are probably more people with the same last name as mine that I don't know.  The name is pretty unique, I wonder if we are all related.  My father was born in Blythesville, Arkansas.

  2. Pulphus is my maiden name. I would like to know the origin of the surname Pulphus also. Thanks.

  3. Ancestry.com does not provide a meaning for this surname.  In the 1920 U.S. Census people with the PULPHUS surname are listed as black (true for all of the census info. I included here) and are living in St. Francis, Lee County, Arkansas; Corinth, Alcorn County,Mississippi; and Beat 3, Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

In the 1910 U.S. Census, there is one family who was living in  Langford, Clay County, Mississipi

In the 1930 U.S. Census, the town showing up is Blytheville, Mississippi County, Arkansas w/ at least one PULPHUS being born in Virginia.

There is a record of a Josepha PULPHUS who arrived in NY at the age of 28.  She arrived from Bohemia on 12 April 1892 and was going to Illinois. She knew how to read.
