Original Daytona NASCAR races...?

How far was the original race at the Daytona Speedway? I mean when they raced on the beach (when it was pretty much a road course). I know today they are 500 miles, but the original races with Lee Petty, etc, how far were they?

100-300 miles of awkward-looking cars tromping through sand.

it was like 60 miles.,.,.front straight away was on the beach and came inland alomst l**k a road/offroad course,.,., it was really long due to the cars maybe getting 85 on the front,.,.,.but good times im sure,.,.,its the original,.,.
