Original Directv DVR...would this work?

I have the original DVR that Directv came out with about 4 years ago. I am upgrading to the newer one. My question is can I put the old DVR in my kids room without having cable hooked up to watch what is already downloaded under the Now Playing list? Like can I just hook the DVR to the TV for them to watch the Nicktoons that are saved? Thanks in advance :)

  1. You should be able to. We loose our signal sometimes in the winter and when we do, we watch what ever we have recorded. Ours is a Dish DVR though.

  2. I don't think you'll be able to. I forgot to pay the bill one month and the DVR box wouldn't let me watch what was saved. All it did was show me a message saying the bill wasn't paid. I guess the best way to know for sure is to unplug it from the cable outlet and see if it works when it's only plugged into the TV.
