Original Six Teams again on route to take Stanley Cup Championship -NHL Update
The original six teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) always have had an upper hand when it comes to the playoffs and seeing how this 2011-2012 regular season has turned out so far, it seems that their on route once again to take the Stanley Cup championship.
Boston Bruins took the Stanley Cup last year and Chicago Blackhawks prior to that. Detroit Red Wings have multiple championships under their belt and New York Rangers are definitely looking like a winning team as well.
While other teams struggle to make the playoffs at the end of the season, these past few years except for Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, the remaining original six teams have found it quite easy in doing so.
One surprising team has emerged to overtake the original six in the Western Conference, Detroit, which are the St. Louis Blues, as they stand at number one in the rankings with 91 points, but Red Wings are not worried about how it will end, instead their
focused on performing in the postseason.
"We can't do anything about St. Louis right now," Detroit coach, Mike Babcock, said. "Right now, it's about us in this room. We like to win. That's why we put that sweater on. It's something we take pride in and passion in, and as long as we start to play
better, we'll be fine."
Boston is at second place in the East and is determined to defend their Stanley Cup championship till the last moment. Seeing how Bruins can make a comeback at any moment, seeing them win a second straight championship might not be a surprising as many think.
Despite Toronto being at the 12th spot, Maple Leafs should not be underestimated when it comes to rebounding when the season comes to a close. Last season, they missed the playoffs by a couple of points but now, they are working towards securing
it much earlier.
With New York Rangers working hard and maintaining a huge lead compared to their conference counterparts, they just might become a team to hoist the Stanley Cup in the playoffs.
Putting all weight behind Rangers just might turn out to be a smart decision if done now rather than later when they really start to work the other teams.
