Original return did not qualify for stimulus but amended did, when will I get my payment?

IRS says I won't be getting a stimulus check that it won't be until next year or something. Because I filed an amended return and the original did not qualify me. Now I can't find online anywhere about the time period I might be getting my payment. Does anyone know?

  1. What the IRS told you is correct.

The only changes where an amendment makes you eligible is if you omitted social security payments/railroad retirement/VA benefits from your original.  Other than that, an amendment doesn't make you eligible for a payment if you weren't eligible based on your original filing.  That's why you can't find a time frame - there isn't one.

If you make enough in 2008 to owe taxes, then you might get some benefit next year when you file from the stimulus law.

  2. i would check out the www.irs.gov website they have a ton of answers on there, but i thought i remembered reading that it would be after the last checks go out in august before they would issue amended tax return checks

  3. it will be added on to your tax refund when you file next year.

it's called the second chance work sheet or something like that.

  4. Q: What if I already filed my return but have additional income to report that would make me eligible for a stimulus payment?

A: If you have additional qualifying income for Social Security, Veterans Affairs or Railroad Retirement benefits that you would like to report, you can file an amended return using Form 1040X, but allow 8-12 weeks of processing time before making any inquiries about your payment.
