After leading the London club to the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League win this season, Drogba has announced his departure from the club. The Ivory Coast will be leaving the club after eight years with them, and he will indeed be sorely missed.
Drogba will be leaving on a free transfer since his current contract with the club will expire at the end of June, it is not yet certain where he will end up but he has been linked with LA Galaxy, Chinese side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shanghai-Shenhua-c40497 and La Liga sides Barcelona
and Real Madrid.
Romeu admitted it was sad to leave the club’s best player depart and praised the 34-year-old striker who has proven himself various times. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 man revealed he believed Drogba would be able to adjust to any side he chooses to join.
Romeu said while speaking to reporters:
“Drogba is a very good player. He has immense quality. He could adapt to any team. It's a real shame that he's leaving Chelsea, because he added a lot to the team.”
Romeu joined the London side in the summer of 2011 from Barcelona on a fee of 5 million Euros; however, he has a clause in his contract which allows the La Liga giants to buy him back for 15 million Euros in 2013. He has so far gone on to make 23 appearances
for the Blues in all competitions.
Speaking about his former club, who have recently had Tito Vilanova replace Pep Guardiola, who resigned, as manager or the club, Romeu claimed it was a good change for the La Liga side. He was certain the new manager would not disappoint.
It seems the new manager is set to bring in new signings in the summer transfer window. He continued:
“Barcelona are keen to continue the same path they have been following. Tito has an excellent relationship with the players, and he will be well-prepared for the position of head coach.”
