OK... You say you've lived in Ireland all your life etc, but I'm guessing you're quite young, so I'll be nice and give you a little lesson that you didn't pay attention to in school.

Ireland didn't become ANYTHING in 1921... In 1922, the Irish Free State was formed afer the signing of the Anglo - Irish Treaty. The Bunreacht na hÉireann, the constitution changed the name of the country from the Irish Free State to Ireland (Éire) in 1937.

Orla we only became an actual republic in 1949.

So do you understand it now?!
