Orlando Cabrera shuns retirement rumours – MLB News
Different news providers had already published the stories before Orlando Cabrera could say anything about his future plans in Major League Baseball. A news agency reported last week that Cabrera is retiring from the game after 2011 season.
Cabrera seemed confused and amazed as he read a recent quote regarding him saying that he wanted to retire from MLB and that this was his last season. It seems that the interview was for a Spanish radio show and Cabrera felt that the translation of the show
from Spanish to English is what created all the unnecessary confusion about him retiring.
El Universal, the Colombian newspaper published his quote that supposedly Cabrera said, “This is my last season. Something I have seen in professional ball since I signed, and something that has made an impression on me, is when a manager calls a player
to his office to release him. That, for me, is the saddest thing I’ve seen outside of the death of a beloved family member.”
The Cleveland Indians recently acquired Cabrera for $1 million for one year. Cabrera is of the view that he still has a few good playing years in him and that he does not have any intention of retiring from baseball soon. His recent change to the second
base position has created more flexibility for Cabrera and his playing style.
Cabrera is no doubt a tremendously talented player that has can make a positive impact on the Indians’ line-up. The team will be looking to him during the spring session workout to remain focused and stay fit for the upcoming regular season. Orlando understands
his responsibility in the team and has shunned any and all rumours regarding the possibility of him retiring soon.
It seems that the entire incident has been a giant misunderstanding that has confused many fans and supporters of Cabrera. There is little doubt that the Indians will want a player of this level to retire from their line-up, as they are currently looking
to build on some success during spring training and the subsequent regular season. The Indians will be looking for a successful spring workout session and hopefully a strong regular season from their current line-up.
