Orlando Hudson shines as San Diego Padres defeat Cincinnati Reds 3-2 – MLB Update
Orlando Hudson played brilliantly as he hit the tying run in the eighth inning to help San Diego Padres defeat Cincinnati Reds 3-2 at Petco Park, San Diego on Wednesday, April 13.
Padres managed to avert a Cincinnati 3-0 sweep on the former’s home ground as Orlando Hudson played a sensational inning to hit a bases-loaded, opposite field single that enabled the team to a stunning victory. The match had all the flavours of a breathtaking
encounter, thanks largely to the Reds ability to lead 2-1 until the eighth inning when Hudson stole to second and scored as Jorge Cantu hit Aroldis Chapman, who was pitching for Cincinnati.
It was the pitchers who seemed to have a comfortable command on the batters, disallowing any to go for a major hit. Tim Stauffer came to pitch for the Reds, as Drew Stubbs of San Diego was the first to face him. However, as the inning came to its end, the
Reds were standing at zero. Cameron Maybin was the first from San Diego to face Travis Wood, who was pitching for Cincinnati.
Second inning did not see any hit either for Cincinnati followed by the Padres, as none of whose batters were able to strike. The third inning produced nothing exceptionally good either apart from the predominance of the pitchers. Padres’ Tim Stauffer was
perhaps in for a surprise when Juan Francisco grounded into fielder’s choice to second, as Joey Votto scored and Jonny Gomes out at second. There were a total of three hits in the fourth inning, of which Francisco scored the first run for Cincinnati, giving
his team a 1-0 lead.
San Diego struggled with the bat when Wood came to pitch for Cincinnati. This time it was Votto who struck Tim Stauffer, as he doubled to deep center as Stubbs scored. That gave a needed 2-0 lead to Cincinnati. Padres wanted a result different from this,
as their first instance of resistance could be seen in the seventh inning when Nick Hundley struck Wood for a sacrifice fly to right, as Headley scored and Chris Denorfia went to third. The score brought the Reds’ lead down to 2-1.
Just when the match was facing tie, Hudson did something magical, as he struck Nick Masset for a single to left as Nick Hundley scored. That gave the desperately needed 3-2 victory to San Diego Padres.
