Orlando Hudson’s double RBIs help San Diego Padres defeat Atlanta Braves 4-1 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ second baseman, Orlando Hudson had an extraordinary day as he went 1-for-5 and hit two RBIs in the Padres’ 4-1 victory against the Atlanta Braves at Petco Park, San Diego on June 26.
The pitchers restricted the batters from the first to the seventh inning of the game and did not allow any run by pitching curveballs. The batters played slothful shots and got out at infield positions. At the bottom of the first inning, Hudson was grounded
out to second base and Will Venable popped out to short-stop.
The Braves’ batters also looked powerless as Freddie Freeman was grounded out to short-stop and David Ross struck-out swinging during the second inning. The batters missed the scoring opportunities for the Braves at the top of third when Tim Hudson walked
but Jordan Schafer flied out to centre-field.
In the seventh inning, Ryan Ludwick hit a grounder to short-stop but Chase Headley got out at second base without the addition of even a single run. The pitchers maintained their ideal line by throwing the ball towards the feet of the batters.
The Padres’ starter, Cory Luebke pitched superbly as he threw five innings with an ERA of 2.86 and did not permit any run on one hit. He struck-out six batters and allowed two walks on 75 pitches. Schafer doubled to deep right-centre and Eric Hinske added
the first run for the Braves at the top of the eighth inning.
On the other side, the Padres’ batters stepped on the gas and blasted four runs at the bottom of the eighth to get a 4-1 lead. Jason Bartlett reached to short-stop on an infield single and Chris Denorfia took the first run. The second and third run was taken
by Cameron Maybin and Jesus Guzman, respectively, when Hudson singled to centre-field.
Hudson said, “It makes any inning better, as long as you can get runners in, man. It ain't that easy driving runners in. You've got a guy that's cutting it, sinking it, slider, curveball, changeup. I wish it was that easy.”
Bartlett posted the last and final run of the game when Headley drove a single-run shot towards centre-field. In the ninth inning, Dan Uggla fouled out to short-stop and Chipper Jones popped out to second base without any run.
