Orlando Magic complete coaching staff under head Coach Jacque Vaughn – NBA News
The Orlando Magic finally completed their coaching staff on Thursday when they announced the signing of three assistant coaches, two player development coaches and one special consultant to the head coach.
“Each coach brings a unique skill set to the staff. Collectively, this staff possesses a diverse basketball background. We are truly fortunate that these men have decided to join our Magic family,” said Magic Head Coach Jacque
Vaughn who will lead the coaching staff and was himself recently hired on July 28th after the Magic fired former head coach Stan Van Gundy at the end of the season.
James Borrego, Wes Unseld Jr and Brett Gunning have been hired as assistant coaches under Vaughn; Luke Stuckey and Laron Profit have been given the responsibility of player development where as veteran NBA assistant Coach Gordon
Chiesa has been named special consultant to Vaughn.
Borrego spent the last two seasons with the New Orleans Hornets as an assistant coach. He has previously worked with the San Antonio Spurs for seven seasons, during which the Spurs won the NBA championship twice, in 2005 and 2007.
Wes Unseld Jr spent the last season as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors. He has previously spent 13 seasons with the Washington Wizards, 6 of which he served as an assistant coach. During his stint in Washington,
the Wizard made four consecutive playoff appearances.
Gunning has most of his experience in college basketball and was considered as one of the best assistant coaches in the country during his time with at Villanova. He helped Villanova secure four consecutive NCAA tournament berths.
Gordon Chiesa was a consultant for the NBA D-League this past season, and is most famous for his time with the Utah Jazz that spanned 16 NBA seasons, from 1989 to 2005. Chiesa was an assistant coach to the Jazz that made two NBA
Finals appearances, clinched the Mid West division title three times, made it to the playoffs in 14 consecutive seasons and had an overall record of 809-471. When current Magic Head coach Vaughn was drafted by the Jazz in 1997, he spent the first four years
of his NBA career working with Chiesa.
