Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson missed his second consecutive game with knee injury
The Orlando Magic point guard, Jameer Nelson, missed his second consecutive game of the season 2010-11 to rest his left-knee injury that he received in Friday’s game against the New Jersey Nets.
Nelson said his knee injury is still tight, but he could play Monday’s game against the New York Knicks. However, the Magic’s president of operations, Otis Smith made it clear to Nelson that he is not the one to decide about his return to the
line-up and asked him to rest his knee.
The product of Saint Joseph University was hurt his left knee in Knicks’s 95-85 victory over the Nets at on Friday night at Amway Centre. The Nets point-guard Jordan Farmar fell back into Nelson’s leg with 2:30 remaining in the halftime. He was
then taken to the locker room. The MRI reports were negative and the doctors advised Nelson to take rest for some days. Since then, he is under day-to-day observation.
The 29-year-old Nelson said he was luckily able to pull out his leg before it could seriously damage. He said, “I am all right. I have not done anything yet on the court, have not tested it.” “I got hit on the side of the knee. I got my foot
out just in time. It was not quite planted. If it was really planted and it was hit, I do not know what might have happened. Everything (with the MRI) came out negative.”
Prior to the injury, Nelson added two points, three assists, and one rebound in the victory.
No doubt, Nelson’s injury is a huge loss for the Magic but it provided Gilbert Arenas with an opportunity to make his first start with Orlando. Arena took the charge and contributed nine points, five assists, and 10 rebounds in Orlando’s 113-106
defeat to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
The Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy is satisfied with the performance of Arenas now days. He said, “Actually I have been really, really happy with his effort and focus and trying to do what we want.” “The leg against some of the quicker point
guards will give him problems against the quicker point guards, but the last two weeks I have been happy with the effort he is made to try harder on the defensive end and a real conscious effort to do things the way we want them done.”
