Orlando Magic secure 2nd consecutive victory with win over Golden State Warriors – NBA Recap
Only a day after shocking the league by defeating former teammate Dwight Howard and the Los Angeles Lakers, the Orlando Magic secured their second consecutive victory by defeating the Golden State Warriors here at the ORACLE Arena on Monday night. The Magic dominated the final period of the game which allowed them to pick up a comfortable 102-94 victory in the end. Glen Davis finished with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the Magic, where as Arron Afflalo also had 24 points on the night, going 9 of 16 from the field. J.J. Redick came off the bench to score a valuable 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the Magic. Stephen Curry finished with a game high 25 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists for the Warriors, where as David Lee had 22 points and 9 rebounds for the night.
The Warriors, in usual tradition, got off to a lightning fast start and quickly ran away with an 11-8 lead through a three pointer by Curry. Orlando remained close behind but a three pointer by Klay Thompson followed by back to back field goals by Lee had the Warriors leading 20-16. Redick then scored five straight points for the Magic and tied the game at 21, but the Warriors replied by scoring the next six points and jumping to a 27-21 lead. Orlando then scored 7 points in the final minute and led 28-27 at the end of the period.
A layup by Davis early in the second period gave the Magic a 34-31 lead, but the Warriors were right on their trail and replied with a jump shot by Lee followed by a three pointer by Harrison Barnes to take a 36-34 lead. Back to back free throws by Afflalo followed by a slam dunk by Maurice Harkless gave the Magic a 46-40 lead, and Nelson scored a three pointer in the final seconds of the period to give the Magic a 51-47 lead at the halftime break.
A three pointer by Curry early in the third period have the Warriors trailing 52-53, and Thompson later scored a pull-up jumper to take a 56-55 lead. Orlando re-took the lead through a three pointer by Redick later in the period, which was followed by back to back field goals by Redick to extend their lead to 69-63. The Warriors then closed the period on a 6-0 run and tied the game at 69 heading into the final period.
A jumper by Afflalo put the Magic up 77-72 early in the final period, and Redick then scored five straight points as the Magic ran away with a 82-74 lead. A dunk by Afflalo followed by a three pointer ensured that the Magic had a 96-84 lead, and the Magic eventually won 102-94 in the end.
Both teams shot almost equally well from the field and had the same number of rebounds on the night. The Magic had 5 fewer turnovers at 8 and played a solid final period that helped them take the victory in the end.
