Orlando Magic sneak past Detroit Pistons 110-106: NBA Recap
J.J. Redick dropped down 23 points and sunk the go-ahead three-pointer with 42.8 seconds on the regulation to lift Orlando Magic to a 110-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons; snapping their five match losing streak.
Arron Afflalo added 19 points; Glen Davis scored a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Jameer Nelson also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists as the Magic came back from a 13 point deficit in the second
half.
“We had to deliver our blow. We had to be more aggressive. We had to do everything harder and be tougher. We made some adjustments, set some screens, got guys open, put the ball in the right people's hands and made some big stops
in the end." Jameer Nelson commented on his team's comeback.
Greg Monroe led the Pistons with 23 points and 7 rebounds, Tayshaun Prince added 18 points while Brandon Knight had 10 points and 12 assists on the night.
Knight scored a three pointer early in the first period to put Pistons up by 9-4. A Jason Maxiell jumper had them up 13-8 before Afflalo nailed a three pointer that left the Magic trailing 11-13. The Pistons then went for an 8-0
run that put them up 21-11 before the Magic replied with an 8-0 burst of their own, that cut the deficit down to 19-21. The Pistons were leading 25-22 by the end of the first period.
Magic started the second quarter strongly and a Davis jumper took them to a 28-26 lead early in the period. A deuce by Corey Maggette tied the score at 30, and it was all square on 36 again after a Will Bynum jumper.  Pistons started
pulling ahead and a6-0 run put them up by 42-36. They took this 6 point advantage to locker room as the Magic were trailing 44-50 by the end of the period.
A Prince jumper right at the beginning of the period put the Pistons up by 52-44. Redick cut the deficit down to 58-64 for the Magic with a three, but the Pistons pushed ahead with a 7-0 run going up 71-58 with less than four minutes
to go in the period.
It seemed that the Pistons might grab their second win of the season as they had built a solid 13 point lead at that point. But the Magic went for a quick 13-4 burst at the end of the period to cut the deficit down to 71-75.
It was still a six point game after a Rodney Stuckey layup made it 83-77. But the Magic caught up with them fast and Redick nailed a three pointer to tie the score at 85. Rookie Kyle Singler tied the score at 95 with a free throw
for Detroit, about 3 minutes left on the regulation.
With just a minute to go it was still a one point game after Maxiell’s free throws brought the Pistons to100-101. Redick then nailed a three pointer to increase the gulf. Two personal fouls by the Pistons in the closing seconds
gifted four free throws to Magic, which they capitalized on well to win 110-106.
