Orlando Magic’s new draft pick DeAndre Liggins hoping to play overseas during lockout: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has locked its players and this lockout is forcing many players to play overseas. Many contracts have been made between NBA players and European basketball clubs while this growing trend
of playing overseas is picking up pace. The mass exodus has spared nobody. From superstars like Kobe Bryant and Deron Williams to newly drafted player like E’ Twain Moore, everybody seems to be interested in going overseas.
This time, the Orlando Magic’s newly drafted DeAndre Liggins has spoken for himself and showed interest to play overseas during the NBA lockout. Liggins was present on Friday at John Calipari’s ProCamp in Lexington and told the
media about his future plans.
Liggins said, "Overseas, there's good money over there, there's a lot of good things over there but only thing is you're not around your family as much and you can't eat the food, and money talks, and my situation...I got a son
so I think that's something I'm looking into. You got to do what you got to do. You got to understand this is the business though. You got to do what you got to do to survive."
Liggins was also very excited to comeback in Lexington and told the media about his affiliation with this very place. He said, “I always feel special when I come here. Since I got drafted I've been here like twice and I feel special
and that's the type of feeling I like to have. So I just love everything about this place and I'm glad I came here.”
DeAndre Liggins landed in the Orlando Magic in June 23. The former Kentucky star came into the Magic’s roster when the Orlando Magic decided to pick him with 53rd overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Before coming into
the Magic, Liggins had a tremendous career at the University of Kentucky where he played with extra force and proved his valour against all the competitors in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He played almost three seasons with Kentucky
and received a great admiration for his wonderful talent.
Liggins’ rookie season in the NBA might have threatened this lockout but he has a very bright chance now to play somewhere else and learn some extra skills and comeback in the league with more energy and thrust. Liggins’s agent,
Henry Thomas is also working very hard to find a reasonable contract for him. Both Liggins and his agent want a conditional contract with a potential overseas team which would allow him to return as soon as the lockout will be lifted from the players.
The New Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has yet to be signed by the NBA owners and the Players Association. On the other hand, the International federation of basketball (FIBA) has also allowed all NBA players to play overseas
which would drastically increase the number of players who are interested in playing overseas.
