Ortensia to emerge successful from the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot
Trainer Paul Messara is confident about Ortensia’s ability to perform well in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on 19th June, 2012, which covers a distance of five furlongs.
The trainer believes that she is in the right form, and has everything she needs to land the race. The only thing that might hinder her performance is the surface of the track that has been labelled good to soft.
Messara believes that the seven-year-old mare is in the best possible form, as he started training her after November, 2011, and since then she has completed a hat-trick and shown remarkable progress.
The trainer stated:
"She was the best she had been before Dubai and I feel she is coming into this race in the same sort of form. The ground is a concern, she has mixed form on rain-affected tracks and is better on top of the ground. She has a devastating turn of foot
on a quick surface.”
The trainer is slightly skeptical over Ortensia’s performance on this kind of track, had it been slightly dry, the confidence of her connections would have dramatically increased.
With a victory in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint Sponsored By Emirates NBD at Meydan backing her up, the daughter of Testa Rossa, out of mare Aerate´s Pick’s appeal has increased a great deal.
The A. D. N. Fraser, Miss A. C. N. Fraser and Ms E. J. H. Ridley owned runner secured the victory over the Edward Lynam trained, Sole Power, by a margin of 1 ¼ lengths, under rider, Craig A. Williams.
Roger Charlton, trainer of Bated Breath, initially had concerns with the surface of the track and had doubts about the bay horse competing in this event, however, the five-year-old runner is in good form and performed brilliantly in the Group 2 Betfred.com
Temple Stakes at Haydock in May, 2012, when he defeated, Sole Power.
The trainer commented:
"His work had been good and I thought he was fit and ready to go and I was impressed (at Haydock). He showed lots of speed - bar Sole Power, who maybe got slightly interfered with - he was always winning the race.”
