Question:

Orthodontist Office?

It seems like whenever I go to get my braces tightened, the assistants usually do all the work. My orthodontist only does a few minutes checking my mouth, but thats it.

Is that normal for an orthodontist to spend only 5 minutes on a patient?

  1. yes. the orthodontist examines and evalutes what will be the next step towards your treatment and tells the "orthodontic technician" what procedure will need to be done next. The orthodontist really doesn't actually do the work on you, but provides the technician the information that theyll need to do to you next. Usually that is all an orthodontist will do. Towards the end of treatment when you get your braces off, the orthodontist, however, will take your braces off and polish your teeth to make sure there isnt any glue left over.

If an orthodontist was required to do most of the procedures on you, that would leave him/her left behind with a very busy schedule and other patients waiting, that is why orthodontists have orthodontic technicians to assist them and do the work.

  2. yes i have been to two orthos and my ortho right now just looks and tells the assistant what to do they are busy its normal.

  3. the orthodontist should spend more time with you  but its normal for the assistants to do some or the minor stuff. dont hesitate to ask for him if you have some questions or concerns.
