Question:

Orthodontist.. braces or retainer?

Well I went to my Dentist today and he referred me for an orthodontist appointment in October and its because one of my front teeth and slightly more stuck out than the other but the rest of my teeth on top and bottom are fine and straight. i've never had fillings or teeth out as I hate sugary stuff and only drink water. Do you think I'll have a retainer as well? I'm really not sure & very scared of dentists anyway and don't know how they do braces and does it hurt/any injections involved etc.

  1. Don't worry. You probably won't have your braces on that long. There are no injections and it doesn't hurt. Only the first few days when you get your braces on or wires tighten, only then will it hurt. Other than that you won't even know that they are in your mouth because you will get so used to them. I don't know if you will need a retainer because I think everyone needs them when they get their braces off, so their teeth will stay in place and straight so it won't get back to when they weren't straight anymore. But on the bright side they have clear retainers that you won't even know that they are their (: Hope I helped!

  2. When the orthodontist puts your braces on, they glue on these silver things and apply wire along them and then secure it with mini elastic bands. You'll understand this if you have seen braces on someone else!!

The only time your braces hurt is when you have them tightened, as your teeth will become tender when they start to move in place. They will also hurt when you get sores on your gum from the braces rubbing against it. But don't worry because wax helps to stop the braces rubbing against your gum.

I don't think you'll have a retainer, because I had the same problem as you and I didn't get one.

Just drink non-fizzy drinks, stay away from sweets and sticky foods etc. and you'll be fine!

    Hope this helps x
