What is the lifestyle of a Orthopedic Surgeon and how many hours do they work and are they always on call?

  1. call is usually every 3rd weekend for our group and 2 days a week, unless someone goes on vacation then its adjusted accordingly. Hours when on call vary, weekends you can easily put in 48 hrs with no rest,week days 18 or so hours on call are possible, then what ever clinic days you have in your practice. Pay all depends on geographic locale, and hospital call salary, and medicare reimbursment rate, figure starting 150,000 if established with good clientele base 500,000 to 1,000,000. Hope this gives you an idea.


  2. Good question, I'd like to see an ortho get on here and answer that. Mine is only available for consults on thursdays and surgery is mondays. Hmmm...

    Considering I have to go back every 6 months I'd like to know what he gets up to in between time. Right now he's off on holiday, again. Last time, he was rude enough to tell me that if my knees hurt because I have to stand at work then I should just change jobs (yup, this is after telling me he's not seen knees as bad as mine in someone so young before). Helpful.
