Osama bin Laden was an Arsenal fan, recounts his bodyguard Nasser al-Bahri
While the world looks set to resume normal business following news of the death of one of the most wanted men in recent history, Osama bin Laden, his bodyguard, Nasser al-Bahri touched upon the lighter side to the man thought to be the brain behind the September
11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York.
Al-Bahri, who had been a member of the Saudi Arabian’s staff for the past 6 years, reflected upon life with bin Laden. He disclosed some of his likes and dislikes. The al-Qaeda leader reportedly was a fan of the Barclays Premier League side Arsenal FC as
he admired the beauty with which they played football.
The bodyguard further added, “The Sheikh loved horses. He would always stop and try to buy one if he saw one he liked along the side of the road. He loved honey too, claiming it could cure most ailments.”
Bin Laden was also fond of reading and quoted ‘the memoirs of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 de Gaulle and Field Marshall Montgomery’ according to Al-Bahri.
There might be people who would despise the man with a greying beard for his acts and would insist that reports about being laid to rest in the North of the Arabian sea was indeed a fitting end. Symbolic even, that a person that preached terrorism needed
to be submerged in salt water like the Pharaoh of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Egypt-c2890 in Moses’ time.
However, there would also be a school of thought that argued that he was a human being first. He was not a mere bearded fanatic; on the contrary, he was a multi-faceted person. To them, it would feel only normal that the Saudi Arabian, born on March 10,
1957, could afford to have interests and hobbies just like any other Homo sapien that walked this earth.
Beside his degree in Engineering, he took keen interest in other things - something as harmless as football for example, and the fact that he managed to have an opinion on it is further testament of just that.
