Oscar De La Hoya says he may fight Floyd Mayweather if he gives Victor Ortiz a rematch – Boxing news
The Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya, who defeated 17 world champions and won 6 world titles in six different weight classes, has said that he may come out of his retirement to fight Mayweather once again, provided the undefeated American boxer offers Victor
Ortiz a rematch.
The Pretty Boy, Mayweather, recently secured a fourth round controversial knockout win over Ortiz at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Since then, De La Hoya, Ortiz’s promoter and founder of Golden Boy Promotions, is constantly pushing Mayweather to offer
his fighter a rematch.
The 38-year-old De La Hoya recently Tweeted that he might come out of his retirement to set up a mega clash with Mayweather, if he gives Ortiz a rematch.
De La Hoya said, “It’s so sad Mayweather has to bash people and flaunt money he’s not going to when he retires. Give Ortiz a rematch. Try beat him fair…And then maybe just maybe I will give you another chance at me.”
Meanwhile it has been revealed that De La Hoya needs money and that is why he is so desperate to see Ortiz taking on with Mayweather once again in the ring.
De La Hoya, who is known for generating more money than any other boxer in the history of the sport, an estimated $696 million pay-per-view income, is short of cash these days. Therefore, he wants to make money out of the Mayweather-Ortiz fight as per the
reports. Further reports reveal if Mayweather does not offer Ortiz a rematch, De La Hoya will return to the ring.
“Oscar needs to fight to make money. He’s spending way more money than he’s making. Believe me, he needs to make money somehow,” a source of Fighthype.com revealed. “That’s why he’s pushing so hard to get the rematch for Ortiz. They have no pay-per-view
stars, so if they don’t do something soon, Oscar will be in that ring sooner than you think.”
