Oscar De La Hoya wants Floyd Mayweather to give Victor Ortiz a rematch – Boxing news
Former Mexican-American boxer Oscar ‘The Golden Boy’ De La Hoya, who defeated 17 world champions and won 6 world titles in six different weight classes, is not happy with the way Floyd Mayweather knocked out Victor Ortiz.
Mayweather beat Ortiz last Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
The Vicious, Ortiz, intentionally head-butted Mayweather in the earlier stages of the fourth round but when he went on to hug the five-division world champion and now the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Mayweather, he was given
a knock out punch.
Therefore, the 38-year-old De La Hoya is not happy with the way the fight ended. Ortiz was docked a point for illegally head-butting Mayweather but still De La Hoya insisted Ortiz did not deserve to lose like this.
The former boxer was also not happy with the referee, Joe Cortez, as he reckons the referee was not in the position to see Mayweather’s knockout punches.
“I will fight for Ortiz to have a rematch,” De La Hoya said on Twitter. “I feel Mayweather looked good and Ortiz looked good.”
“Ortiz took it to the street and Mayweather finished it in the street,” he added, referring to Ortiz' intentional head-butt. “Bad sportsmanship by Mayweather. Ortiz was just warming up. A young lion
does not deserve to go out like that.”
He further Tweeted, “Terrible headbutt by Ortiz and should have been deducted 2 points. And sorry to say but the ref was lost as can be.”

In the end De La Hoya, who won 39 of his 45 professional fights, with 30 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, declared he will fight for Ortiz as he deserves a rematch with the Pretty Boy, Mayweather.
“To win the way he won was not right. Ortiz deserves a rematch,” De La Hoya said.
Mayweather, who stepped in the ring after being inactive for 16 months, successfully protected his unbeaten record and now holds a record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout.
However, let’s see if Mayweather gives Ortiz another chance to fight him, as it will certainly be another huge fight.
