Oscar De la Hoya says Saul Alvarez will fight in December
Following a crushing sixth round knockout of Carlos Baldomir, WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez is expected to fight again on 4 December, Golden Boy CEO Oscar De la Hoya has announced.
The 20-year old Alvarez, already a boxing sensation in his native Mexico, floored Baldomir conclusively with a left hook Saturday to become the first fighter to knock out Baldomir in 16 years.
Presumably seeing the prospective mega-star he is dealing with in Alvarez, De la Hoya wishes to get the pugilist back into the ring as soon as possible.  While De la Hoya did not name an opponent, he clarified
that the bout would be in Mexico.
“We want him to get the experience so that when he faces the Mayweathers and Pacquiaos, we want him ready to win,” De la Hoya said confidently.
With the win, Alvarez has taken out his first former A-lister opponent and proved his credentials.  There are many fans who would now like to see him against stiff competition such as “Sugar” Shane Mosley
or WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
After suffering the knockout, Baldomir spoke about Alvarez, saying: “It's true that he hits hard. He hits really hard.  His power really surprised me. This kid is the real deal.”  He continued: “And he's
going to be a champion.  No one has hit me like he hit me before. He knocked me out me and nobody (except one man) has ever knocked me out."
The young Alvarez, nicked “Canelo” or ‘cinnamon’ due to his red hair, has drawn comparisons with Oscar De la Hoya since early in his career.  In an era when Mexican fighters like Erik Morales seem unlikely
to return to prominence, he is quickly becoming the face of Mexican boxing for the future. Though he came in as a heavy favourite against Baldomir, the vicious knockout still impressed observers, given it came against a man who was known for his durability.
